Modernization of Kleve WWTP

With the new thermo compact plant into an energy self-sufficient and climate neutral future. We are very pleased to be part of this project.

In a showcase project, the wastewater treatment plant of the city of Kleve has been modernized over the past three years and has now officially gone into operation. The key element was the installation of a new sludge treatment system in the form of an innovative thermocompact plant.

The goal: an energy self-sufficient and climate-neutral wastewater treatment plant as well as the production of plant-available phosphorus. Energetically, ecologically and economically, the new thermo-compact plant now brings significant advantages:

  • Reduction of total electricity consumption by 50%,
  • reduction in operating costs and
  • an annual CO2 saving of a whole 144 tons.

We are very proud that a Sattler gas storage tank with a volume of 670 m³ is also part of this innovative concept. The digester gas from the thermo-compact plant is collected in our double-membrane gas storage tank and burned in the combined heat and power plant (CHP) to provide the process heat required for drying.
